Kiren works in movement direction, choreography, teaching, facilitating, and performance.
She also creates her own work, using movement, dance, spoken work, and verbatim. She is currently working on her new show Does Anyone Else Smell Curry, which explores various experience of being South Asian in the UK.
She is interested in exploring the intersectionality of identity and creating high standards of artistic quality, whilst widening outreach and accessibility within the performing arts.
Kiren holds an MA, with distinction, in Movement Directing and Teaching from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
Prior to this, Kiren trained at Trinity Laban in Contemporary and Community Dance, in which she gained a distinction, with the Audrey Wethered Award and the Choreography Prize.
Kiren also holds a BA (first with honours) in English Literature, which equips her excellently to work with text, narrative, and devising work.
Movement Directing
Kiren has worked with script-based and devising settings, developing a unique movement language for each piece. Work includes transitions, bespoke character sessions, and developing choreography and stylised movement where desired. She has worked in both professional and community productions of varying scale.
Teaching and Facilitating
Kiren has taught a range of expressive movement and creative dance in her work with The Place, Trinity Laban, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and the London School of Dramatic Art. She has worked with a wide variety of individuals, of all ages and backgrounds. Her pedagogical approach involves democratic, person-centred empowerment, releasing students’ full potential of physicality through accessible, challenging, and rigorous work.
Community Work
Kiren teaches and facilitates dance and movement for a range of participants and enjoys working with all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. She is dedicated to keeping her practice inclusive and accessible, encouraging multiple forms of engagement to find joy and freedom through movement.
Performing
Kiren has professional experience working in dance and acting in multiple contexts. She approaches work with sensitivity, intellect, and rigour, always seeking truth and authenticity in expressive performance. She has recently finished performing in touring production 'Feel Me', The Paper Birds Theatre Company.
